Your Pet’s Very First Appointment: What to Expect

What to Expect:

Your pet’s first visit to the veterinarian will include a basic health check and often their first set of vaccinations. Your pet will be weighed, and the veterinarian will perform a standard exam. This consists of checking the temperature, coat, ears, eyes, heart, lungs, teeth, and gums. Also, the veterinarian will go over your new pet’s healthcare plan. This includes information about heartworms, flea and tick prevention, and vaccinations. All this information will be explained to you during this visit, as well as any questions you may have regarding your pet and their health.

What to Bring:

Fecal-Stool Sample: Please bring a stool sample for your veterinarian to test for intestinal parasites. This sample can be from the previous day as long as it’s been kept in a cool place.

Records and Additional Information: Please take along any health records or documentation you received from the breeder, pet store, or rescue organization. This will give the veterinarian a sense of your pet’s previous care and help them establish an appropriate healthcare regimen.

Please also fill out our “New Patient Form” and bring it along with you to ensure a smoother check-in process.
